Greek Island Retreat

CYCLADES, GREECE

9 BR | 8.5 BA | SLEEPS 16

It's the stuff of dreams... An island all to yourself surrounded by azure waters and an abundance of privacy and space, where you can breathe deep, slow your roll and allow the indulgent experience to sink in.

Part of a grand historical estate, this unique vacation rental is set on 900 acres of pristine nature sanctuary left untouched for centuries. Part of a small archipelago of 10 mostly uninhabited neighboring islands in the Cyclades, the entire chain was once the estate of a famed Ottoman general and later King George before the current family bought the island in 1916.

Built in the 1920s, the main villa is a Neoclassical, turn-of-the-century antique, restored and updated in an understated and elegant style that maintains the finesse of the early 20th-century architecture and the feel of a country idyll.

Just steps from the water's edge, immersed in lush (and edible!) Mediterranean gardens with the peaceful sounds and scent of the sea, it's an unforgettable and rare treat to call your own.

Athens Airport then a one hour ferry to the island. A helicopter or speed boat service is also available.

This large island is located at the gateway for day excursions to the nearby Cycladic islands and the ferry to the mainland. Part of a preserved archipelago, the Petalioi Islands are mostly uninhabited and make great day trips to explore private coves and beaches where protected species like the monachus-monachus seals and sea turtles find refuge.

There are numerous trails on the estate for great hiking and exploring with dedicated bicycle trails. The water sport center is staffed with instructors and welcomes those who want to try their hand at kite-surfing or wind surfing, kayak trips and paddle boarding. There are several beaches and coves around the island for enjoying in absolute privacy.
